Hi BallisticMissle
My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.
First, try restarting your graphics driver:
Press Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B
If that does not work...
Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Display adapters
Right click the current display adapter
Click Properties
Click Driver tab
Click Rollback driver if the option is available
If not
Right click the current display adapter
Click Uninstall
Check the box that says, "Delete the driver software for this device."
Exit Device Manager
Restart
Go to Start -> Settings -> Update & security, then Check for updates and install any available updates.
You might need to update the display driver from the manufacturer of your computers website.
If you have an nVidia, AMD ATI video card or Intel HD graphics installed, you can download the latest drivers from their website.
First, determine what type of graphics you have installed.
Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Display adapters
Once you have determined the graphics driver, go the vendors website and search for the driver in the download section:
Intel - Downloads for Graphics Drivers - Drivers & Software - Intel
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939/...
nVidia - http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
AMD ATI - Download Drivers - AMD Support
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
Some of these sites offer autodetect options.
As for Minecraft:
First of all, make sure you are running the latest version of Windows 10. Click Start > Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Check for updates
Wait while any pending updates are downloaded.
You can also try lowering your screen resolution then see if it launches.
If not...
Could you confirm if this also happens in the default Administrator account?
Open Start
Type: cmd
Right click CMD
Click Run as administrator
At the command prompt, type:
net user administrator/active:yes
Hit Enter
Close command prompt, restart, then try signing into the Administrator account.
Still not working?
Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features
Scroll down to Minecraft
Select it
Click Advanced options
Click Reset
Restart
Check the Store for updates
If that does not work...
download the following utility and use it to remove Minecraft: extract it, launch it, scroll through the list, select Minecraft then click Remove.
https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcen...
Download and reinstall Minecraft for Windows 10 - Microsoft Store

I tried updating and restarting the graphics driver, and that didn't solve the problem, though I discovered that my current driver was last updated in 2014. I also tried to restart Minecraft by finding it in Settings like you suggested, and the crashes still occurred. I will try to uninstall and reinstall Minecraft and see if that resolves the issue. Thank you for your time and assistance.

I have continued to experiment with the game crashes, and have found that the game is still running after the screen freezes, as I can still enter the pause menu by hitting esc. and then using the mouse to close the window, which occurs immediately after I click the red x, so I don't think that Windows is having issues. My theory was further proven when I opened Microsoft Edge right after closing Minecraft and Edge ran without any issues. The only other explanation I can come up with is that there is something wrong with something that runs graphics for the game, because the display seems to be the only thing that is affected by whatever is causing this issue. I'm sure that you have come to a similar conclusion, hence the recommendation to update the graphics card, but that unfortunately has not resolved the issue. Thank you, once again, for your time and patience.

Hello fellow gamer, have you, by any chance, fixed this problem?
I have the same issue with Minecraft W10E and don't know how to fix it.

Same problem, still no solution. I have tried everything. From uninstalling drivers to uninstalling Minecraft and resetting it multiple times.

I am also having the same problem, I bought the windows 10 version yesterday and it crashes whenever I mine or use tools. I've tried everything recommended in this thread, along with a few others that I've found but it keeps happening.

I have not been able to fix the problem, but I have found that using tools with faster mining rates has helped to decrease the probability of crashing. Ex. Diamond Pickaxe vs Stone Pickaxe.

I eventually gave up on fixing this permanently, and just bought a new computer. My new computer is able to handle Minecraft a whole lot easier than my old one, and I think it has to do with the fact that I went from an Intel Celeron to an Intel i5 4th gen, which is a massive processor upgrade, I went from 8 gigs of RAM to 12 gigs, and got a 256 gig. SSD.
